Therefore, I&#8217;ll list some alternatives and give my (sometimes minor) reason for searching for another way.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There are several already-great solutions out there:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Router &amp; flush trim bit<\/strong>: I get annoyed by all the sharpish chips that shoot off when trimming melamine edge banding. Also, for thinner boards, you&#8217;ve gotta pre-trim the edge banding to be close to the surface, else you get some larger chips and tearout of the edge banding.<\/li><li><strong>Sharp chisel:<\/strong>&nbsp;Great solution if you keep your chisels sharp. IMO this is a very great method.<\/li><li><strong>Block plane:<\/strong>&nbsp;Great if you keep your block plane tuned and sharp.<\/li><li><strong>Cheap trimming tools:<\/strong>&nbsp;These simply don&#8217;t work very well, especially as they age and get dull.<\/li><li><strong>Utility knife:<\/strong>&nbsp;My quick go-to before the oscillating tool. Wood grain can catch and pull it too deep.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><strong>The Oscillating Tool Method<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This technique, using the oscillating tool, is my preference that I have found to be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>More convenient<\/li><li>Low-risk &#8211; back of blade keeps it level and prevents gouging.  <\/li><li>Low-risk:  direction of oscillation doesn&#8217;t try to lift wood fibers.<\/li><li>Low-mess &#8211; no chips<\/li><li>Fast &#8211; No prep work necessary. Always ready to go. Sand<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trimming doesn&#8217;t throw chips or shavings everywhere (in contrast to a flush trim bit), and that&#8217;s pretty sweet.&nbsp; It comes off in one clean line.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guiding Principles \/ Techniques:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Keep the bottom of the blade flat on the work piece.&nbsp; Tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Stick some sandpaper to a flat block of wood at least 8&#8243; long.<\/li><li>I have and love this seemingly everlasting roll of&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2I1haeb\" target=\"_blank\">\u200b<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2UjgRlD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"sticky-back 120-grit sandpaper (opens in a new tab)\">sticky-back 120-grit sandpaper<\/a><\/li><li>Make a quick pass at a ~10 degree angle to smooth it.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Make a quick pass at a ~45 degree angel to make a small micro-bevel.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This process is quick and simpler than text makes it sound.&nbsp; Be sure to check out that&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ZtkpmvUqIUc\" target=\"_blank\">\u200bvideo<\/a>. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Clean the Gum Off Your Blade<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bThe glue will cause your blade to get gummed up.&nbsp; It&#8217;s quick and easy to clean.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#d6f3ff\" class=\"has-background\">Since the bottom of the scraper is used as a reference surface, it&#8217;s important to keep the bottom of the scraper flat&#8230;which means no glue.&nbsp; Else you&#8217;ll be tempted to angle it downwards and risk gouging your project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scrape it off:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I use a chisel to scrape it off.&nbsp; It works well when the blade is on, but be sure you observe the direction of the blade travel, and orient your chisel so the sides of the blade don&#8217;t catch it.&nbsp;
